‘illy’ is one of the first memories we have of fine espresso coffee, having lived through various trends of percolated, instant, cona and plunger. Today there are literally hundreds of roasters, roasting an assortment of beans from all corners of the globe. Most blends require an experienced barista to consistently extract the perfect espresso. And we know a few who do a great job. However, for the perfect espresso time after time, at home and office, the illy ‘iperEspresso’ is the answer. And this is why we chose to stock the illy ‘iperEspresso’.

The ‘iperEspresso’ uses a capsule system to deliver the perfect espresso with no need to grind or tamper, and no mess to clean up. Ideal for a quick fix or coffee on the run. The ‘iperEspresso’ technology is available in smaller units, ideal for home and office (or boat!), and larger stainless steel commercial units. The secret behind the illy ‘iperEspresso’ process lies in the innovative coffee capsule. In the first of a two stage process, hot water under ultra-high pressure within the capsule creates optimal uniform conditions that enhance the extraction of the coffee’s flavor and aroma to increase its richness and complexity. In the second stage, coffee is forced through the capsule, mixing with air to produce a round, velvety, long-lived crema. iperEspresso capsules are available in medium and dark roasts, as well as decaf.

The 2007 illy Art Collection set was designed by young German artist Michael Beutler, and is inspired by works that the artist created using the ancient Japanese art of origami. Beutler was the winning artist of the illy Present Future 2005 prize, an award for young contemporary artists established by illy and Artissima. His most significant works include the Baroque-inspired labyrinth in Villa Manin (2006), the “Flip” installation in Braunschweig (2004), and several other complex architectural and exhibition works in Frankfurt, New York, London, Moscow, Paris and Berlin. illy ‘iperEspresso’ X2

The X2 is slightly more than twice the size of the X1, it weighs 17 kilograms and is made entirely of stainless steel. There are two separate X1 mechanisms inside the casing. The X2’s large water reservoir holds five litres, which makes about 100 cups of espresso. It can be refilled from the top or removed and filled from the back of the machine. A quartz clock always gives the exact time and it’s batteries can be easily replaced. Steam and hot water can be dispensed by both boilers. The X2 has an aluminium boiler. Available in stainless steel only. Ideal for commercial operators wanting speed and consistent espresso quality without the need for trained baristas.
