Perrier

Legend has it Hannibal refreshed himself at the spring on his way to attack Rome in 218BC. In 1863, Napolean III granted Dr Alphonse Granier the right to exploit the spring. Later, in 1894, Dr Louise Perrier leased the spring and began marketing the water. Perrier is today the World's most recognized, and France's best selling, sparkling mineral water. Englishman St John Harmsworth so loved the water, on tasting it, he sold out of his family business to buy the spring. He was also responsible for the distinctively shaped bottle, drawing inspiration from Indian clubs he exercised with while recuperating from a car accident. Ownership returned to French hands in 1945 on purchase of the spring by Paris stockbroker Gustave Leven. Perrier water is the product of three separate sources which combine naturally underground. While naturally carbonated, CO2 is extracted separately but reincorporated in exactly the original quantities.
